Chelsea Alexandra as Juliet had good French diction and great high overtones in her voice. In general, she navigated Juliet’s first aria “Je veux vivre” well, keeping control of the coloratura throughout and not rushing. This is a voice with a lovely tone… Alexandra’s rendition of the Poison aria later in the show, and the tomb scene, allowed her to show off her acting skills in a highly effective performance that also allowed her to indulge in some satisfying low notes. Not only that, but her duets with McBrayer’s Romeo made for some of the sexiest singing I’ve heard in a while. Part of that is thanks to Gounod’s writing, but there’s no denying that those two voices were well-paired, neither one overpowering the other. ~Maggie Ramsey

Soprano Chelsea Alexandra and tenor Joseph McBrayer played the roles of Juliet and Romeo with great appeal, making their love story engaging.  Ms. Alexandra has a soprano voice that is a pleasure to hear; her singing of Juliet’s famous aria, “Je veux vivre”, was quite enjoyable.  One would certainly like to hear more from her.  The duets between this Juliet and this Romeo were a highlight of the opera; their trips to the crypt were especially compelling.  Mr. McBrayer had me at his first aria, a lovely voice singing beautifully, a good complement for Juliet… He and Ms. Alexandra made an excellent pairing. ~Mike Rogers

Chelsea Alexandra, a captivating soprano whose voice resonates with warmth and expressive depth, was born in California and raised amidst the natural beauty and cultural richness of Hawaii. From a young age, she found a profound connection to music—a passion that would eventually lead her to stages across the globe.

Chelsea earned her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from Brigham Young University–Hawaii, where she cultivated her vocal artistry and developed an appreciation for diverse musical traditions. She went on to complete her Master’s degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Utah, refining her technique and stagecraft under the mentorship of esteemed artists Kirstin Chávez, Dr. Paul Dorgan, and James Bobick.

Between her academic studies, Chelsea lived on Australia’s Gold Coast, where she joined Opera Australia’s production of Aida for their first-ever Opera on the Beach. Performing under the baton of Tahu Matheson alongside world-class singers, directors, and conductors, she embraced the unique challenge of bringing grand opera to the breathtaking backdrop of Australia’s golden sands—a formative experience that deepened her dedication to the art form.

Chelsea’s professional career has since been marked by a series of celebrated performances. She made her European debut in Novafeltria, Italy, as Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème, later reprising the role with Utah’s Lyrical Opera Theater to critical acclaim. Her other notable portrayals include the title role in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi at Kingsbury Hall, Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Così fan tutte at Libby Hall, The Mother in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors at the Grand Theater, Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen, Juliette in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette with Shakespeare Opera, and Billie Jo Casta in P.D.Q. Bach’s Oedipus Tex. Of her performance as Juliette, Opera Today praised, “[Alexandra’s] duets with McBrayer’s Romeo made for some of the sexiest singing I’ve heard in a while.”

Chelsea is currently preparing to take the stage as Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, adding another celebrated Mozart heroine to her repertoire. She continues to hone her artistry under the guidance of world-acclaimed mezzo-soprano Kirstin Chávez.

Beyond her performance career, Chelsea is deeply committed to the belief that the role of the artist is not only to perform, but to serve—to act as a bridge between the beauty the world longs for and the beauty already within it. She strives to bring opera not only to grand halls but to communities and spaces where it might otherwise never be heard. Whether singing for hundreds or an intimate few, her aim is always to create a moment that matters, one that lingers long after the final note fades. For Chelsea, every performance is an offering—an opportunity to connect, to uplift, and to remind audiences that beauty still exists, and it is always worth seeking. Her hope is that when someone hears her sing, they feel seen, understood, and renewed.
